Thirteen Ways of Looking At Viola: I have singled out one character from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”, Viola, who disguises herself as a man in order to land a job with the powerful Duke Orsino. This begins a series of 13 sculptures cast in various circumstances. In the unfolding of her transformation from woman to man, as there were numerous believable ways to experience Viola. The poem which inspired this work is written by Wallace Stevens: “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”. The poem contextualized and, in a way, cut to the chase what is seen, what is imagined and the remnants of experience.
